Interannual and Seasonal Variability of Macroinvertebrates in Monsoonal Climate Streams
نویسنده
چکیده
The aim of this study was to assess the interannual and seasonal changes in the community composition, abundance and presence-absence of macroinvertebrates in the streams of the northwestern of Argentina. The importance of environmental variability in determining these changes was also analyzed. Macroinvertebrates were collected in eleven streams during high (March) and low (September) water periods during two years. Physical variables and water parameters were also recorded at each site. Community composition and abundance differed significantly between seasons, but the presence-absence data did not exhibit a clear pattern of seasonal change. Rapid recolonization of disturbed substrate could ensure the recuperation of benthic community. Small body sizes, short life cycles and continous reproduction could be important strategies that ensure the rapid resilience and persistence of macroinvertebrate assemblages in time.

Forcing Versus Feedback: Epidemic Malaria and Monsoon Rains in Northwest India
Malaria epidemics in regions with seasonal windows of transmission can vary greatly in size from year to year. A central question has been whether these interannual cycles are driven by climate, are instead generated by the intrinsic dynamics of the disease, or result from the resonance of these two mechanisms. This corresponds to the more general inverse problem of identifying the respective r...
متن کاملNorth American gross primary productivity: regional characterization and interannual variability
Seasonality and interannual variability in North American photosynthetic activity reflect potential patterns of climate variability. We simulate 24 yr (1983–2006) and evaluate regional and seasonal contribution to annual mean gross primary productivity (GPP) as well as its interannual variability. The highest productivity occurs in Mexico, the southeast United States and the Pacific Northwest. ...

[1] The Indo-Pacific warm water pool in boreal winter shows a conspicuous gap over the South China Sea (SCS) where sea surface temperature (SST) is considerably lower than over the oceans both to the west and east. The formation mechanisms for the climatology and interannual variability of SCS SST in boreal winter are investigated using a suite of new satellite measurements. The winter SCS is d...

Prior work established that a mixture of chain-dependent processes, invo...
متن کاملCommunicating uncertainty in seasonal and interannual climate forecasts in Europe
Across Europe, organizations in different sectors are sensitive to climate variability and change, at a range of temporal scales from the seasonal to the interannual to the multi-decadal. Climate forecast providers face the challenge of communicating the uncertainty inherent in these forecasts to these decision-makers in a way that is transparent, understandable and does not lead to a false sen...
